28 October
Today we started off updating our ladders and writing our journals reflecting on our teams games from last week. Britney, Storm and Wally were proud of their team Stars for having their first win in cricket. Scotty, Matyka and Maddy and their team Heat were proud of Max who was on a hat-trick. Sean, Meg and Marni and their team Hurricanes showed great perseverance as they made 28 runs and came back to win. Hayden, Laura and Maisy were proud of their team Scorchers, in particular Justin who really made an effort to get involved in the game this week. Nathan and Chantel and their team Thunder just lost out on the win but everyone stayed really positive throughout the game and kept trying. Bailey, Emma and Jade and their team Sixers were proud of their efforts to keep their opposition at 28 runs even though they couldn't come back to win the game. Felicity, Tamara and Shak and their team Renegades had a great win and were fantastic sports throughout the game. Laura, Grace and Adam and their team Strikers were proud of Logan for being on a hat-trick. Well done!
We also started thinking about ideas for a celebration day for our last week to thank the primary schools, their teachers and students for participating and being involved in our soccer and cricket tournaments. This afternoon we will head out for another round of the Super 8s Cricket Tournament!

We spent the morning updating our ladders with last weeks games results. We also started a new journal entry to reflect on how our teams went last week and use them to come up with a game plan for today. We use our journals to talk about the characters in our teams, not just the overall scores but how we batted, any interesting moments and how we can help them this week.
This afternoon we will head out to set up the fields ready to play some more cricket, hoping that we don't get rained out today.

The second week of our Super 8's cricket tournament was a great day. We spent the morning going over the rules and how to score a cricket game. We also spent some time setting up a ladder on excel to keep track of the games scores each week. Each team of coaches were given a folder containing all the important tournament information we created last week, things like: score sheets, rules, team lists and the draw. It was quite a hot day which didn't seem to bother the primary school kids at all and we had a great day of cricket with high fives all round.

Term 4 has started and our Super 7's Soccer Tournament has ended. We've decided to start up a new game for the Grades 3 and 4's from the local primary schools: the Super 8's Cricket Tournament. The teams and coaches will all remain the same as we move into the cricket season.
We assigned each group of coaches jobs to prepare including: equipment, team names, creating the draw order, marked out new fields and creating new encouragement awards. In the afternoon we had a great start to the tournament and everyone is looking forward to learning some more cricket skills next week.

Today is the final round of our Super 7's Competition! This afternoon we will head out for the final time to play soccer with our primary school teams. Before we get to play for the final time we need to update our ladders with last weeks results and complete our blog entries reflecting back on our goals, achievements and challenges from last weeks games.
Every week we give out some encouragement awards for the players, there is one up for grabs for every team from every game they participate in. It was a tough choice this time as there we so many great players, lots of encouragement from each other, and everyone really gave it a go and got into the games! Congratulations to all the teams this week.
Our sports aid focus today is on warm-up and cool-down exercises. It doesn't matter how old or how fit you are, or what sport you are participating in; these exercises will help prevent injuries and for the primary school kids it will help them establish good routines to follow through their lives.
Stretches we looked at included: dynamic, ballistic, static and PNF. Warm-ups should consist of: aeorbic activity, dynamic stretches and possibly a sports specific drill as well. Cool-downs should be done for 5 to 10 minutes following the game and should consist of low intensity aerobic activity, static stretching and other recovery strategies.

Updating our ladder this morning has allowed us to figure out the finals draw which will run for two weeks. Reflecting on last weeks games and how our teams went we have come up with a list of skills that we are going to focus on with our teams this week:
The focus of our sports first aide today is on dental injuries. We discussed the role and importance of mouth guards and learnt some interesting facts such as: a tooth that has been knocked out and is reinserted in its socket within 20 minutes still has a chance of surviving! We discussed what we would need to do to help if anyone had a tooth knocked out or a chipped or broken tooth - as well as what not to do - at least until we could get them to a dentist.
In the afternoon we will need to set up the fields again so that we are ready to run another round of Super 7's Soccer for the primary schools. We'll be focusing on the goals we've set for ourselves and our teams from our reflections this morning, and on making sure our teams have fun playing the game.
- Passing the ball around more
- Encouraging each other
- Looking for a good option before kicking the ball
- Defense zone skills
- Spreading out on the field
- Positive sportsmanship
- Motivate each other

Reviewing our games from last week let us update our ladder spreadsheets. To do this we need to type in which teams won, lost or drew, the number of points each team scored as well as how many points they had scored against them. Typing all our data in calculates the teams percentage and points from the formulas we created previously. We also put a formula in so that the ladder then updates itself to sort in order of percentage and then by points. Now our ladder is updated for the week we can write our individual blogs, we reflect on how our games went, how we think our teams are going and what else we can do as coaches to improve for next week.
Our sports first aide focus for this week is asthma. We investigated what asthma is, what actions we can do if someone has an attack and how they can control it. We discovered that 1 out of 10 people have asthma, which proved true for our class of 20 students, two of us do have asthma. Maddy volunteered to help demonstrate the procedure we would follow to help someone by pretending to have an asthma attack while Ms. Willmott showed us step by step how to help her.
In the afternoon we headed out to set up the soccer fields and run another week of our tournament. We each take a turn umpiring, as well as coaching our teams. Hopefully the kids are enjoying the experience as much as we are!

First up this morning we reviewed our games from last week, we learnt how to create a ladder based on points and percentages before completing a session on sports first aide. We learnt several medical acronyms including DRS ABCD, which stands for: Dangers, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR and Defibrillation. Other acronyms we looked at included COWS which stands for Can you hear me? Open your eyes, What's your name? Squeeze my hand; and RICER which is for soft tissue injuries which stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation and Referral.

This morning we created a fixture for our primary school tournament before most of our group headed out to mark out four soccer fields with white lines ready for the kids to play on. These lines should last the entire tournament, we also filled in any holes in the fields to make sure its safe for everyone to play on. Britney, Laura, Grace, Chantel and Storm created a Super 7's Encouragement Award ready to give out to deserving players in the afternoon.
In the afternoon the primary school kids joined us and had a ball versing each other in mini soccer games. It got a bit competitive but everyone had the opportunity to participate and everyone got some great touches of ball with a lucky few getting goals!

We planned to start our Primary School Soccer Tournament today however due to the weather we needed to change our plans. We decided to run a for a class of Year 7 and 8's. We spent the morning planning our activities and also sewed some sport bibs that needed repairing.
In the afternoon we were able to run our activities and played volleyball using a Swiss ball to add an element of challenge and excitement to the game. The kids moved between this activity and other mini games set up including ping pong and various ball games. We were also able to take the opportunity to run the activity with a group of Grade 6 Students from Nathalia Primary School who were quite competitive and a lot of fun .

In preparation for running our soccer tournament for the primary schools we found out how to construct a draw, and used Excel to create graphs and a score sheet. This helped us to work out percentages from our scores with data input from our draw.
We chose teams of 2 or 3 to be in when we run the primary school tournament. We have chosen team names and we visited the community center to conduct training drills run by each team, before playing a game of four-way soccer ourselves to refine our skills.

We developed our skills of organising a mini tournament by taking it a step further from last week and practiced outside of our class, with a PE class of Year 7 and 8 students. We chose to run a soccer tournament and set out to measure our field and set it up to the correct size. The day ran well as we practiced some skills and played a game of soccer with everyone participating.
15 July
We organised ourselves into groups of 4 or 5 and created a mini game to run for all the other groups to participate in. This experience gave us a taste of what it will be like to run a mini tournament completely by ourselves.
